Farewell to
Bond. James Bond. There’s a new statement in town, and that’s “8. Market 8.”
I’m particularly happy to see the Stravropoleos street of the
Old Center unveil its highly anticipated wonder, since waiting for it to open was a grueling experience. I mean, what could be worse for a
coolhunter than to walk by concealed places that promise to be the best, the first, most special? And, to add to the torture, during construction, the windows were covered with posters showing what the place would look like once it was finished, thus making me even crazier. The images showed a futuristic café and the words “café / news / art”. Intriguing,
n'est-ce pas?
Well, finally, the posters are off of the windows. The inside, however, by all international standards, is beyond what a picture can ever tell.
This is an original place that associates objects and concepts and provokes the visitor to make it all blend with his/her own interpretation of what’s on display. Does that sound ambiguous? Well, you’ll have to see for yourself, create your own vision while there, and until then, here’s what we can tell:
-it’s a concept store where 90% of the stuff is for sale (we had to say that since I bet some of you would want to buy the entire house, or just move in);
-it sells eclectic furniture that’s either new or refurbished, fashion by
Venera Arapu, lounge music, art made possible by an association with a local gallery, news and media, and… a modern café-bar which, among light snacks, coffees and breakfast, entices you with delicious
madeleines.
So when you’re in the mood to be seen, be dazzled, be informed or simply buy something… say this: “Let’s meet at 8. Market 8.”
